Bringing courage, hope, and creativity
It is common for helping agencies to address immediate needs. While good for crisis mode, it is not a solution to deeper issues. People displaced by war, disoriented by catastrophe, or disenfranchised for other reasons need more than ‘a meal and a tent’ to get back on their feet. Without basic tools to thrive on their own, they live in generational poverty. Generational poverty leads to unrest, hopelessness, and cultural breakdown.
Hopeless people do desperate things.
One solution is early education; another is gainful employment or business opportunities for youth and adults.
Investing in the children brings hope and dignity to the entire family; it encourages both parents and older siblings. Immediate aid for education at the younger levels, coupled with added creative income sources at the higher levels is a one-two punch that brings visible results.
When a child comes home excited about advanced learning, the whole family enjoys the learning process and addresses life creatively. Hope grows. With hope, comes innovation and fresh starts.
We have the opportunity to see and address these situations and their potential.
Seeing brings its own imperative to act. With friendship and trust, so much – so good – can happen! We each die a little inside, every time we see the opportunity to do good – and turn away, denying the call to act.
Earlier would have been better; later is foolish. Carpe Diem (seize the day) is a classic Latin phrase. When we see the issue and have access and permission to act – why fail to do so?
There is a burden that comes from knowing – really knowing. And that burden has now been shared with you.

Bringing courage, hope & creativity through education & small business
Rise & Shine International has direct connection with families in refugee camps in Bethlehem, West Bank. These camps are almost closed communities, often under tensions. They can be prime ground for radical recruiters among restless youth in high unemployment. The power of hope is astounding, in families and among the young, when good educational options are offered. We encourage creative dreams in the youth, for positive outcomes. Every seed bears fruit – even when the ideas themselves don’t work out.
Such a small investment – such great dividends in lives – far more than we know.
Rise & Shine International delivers actual resources, direct to families; within relationship.
Lives and dreams hang in the balance. Time is of the essence. Earlier would have been better, but we are here, now.
As the Negro College Fund appropriately reminds us, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a great thing in which to invest.”
We need to grow; the work is bigger than we are. We invite YOU to come on board with us and get in on the joy!
"I cannot say enough good things about Mary Chico. She is not only a personal friend but has served as one of my key intercessors for several years. Mary is a powerhouse. Do not be fooled by her "motherly demeanor." She is willing to go to the hard places of this world and give totally of herself to the least of these. She is a fearless woman! I have never met anyone who loves Palestinian young people like Mary Chico. God has given her His heart for a beautiful people that are being overlooked by the church at large. She follows in the footsteps of Jesus."
"I am honored to call Mary Chico my friend and I wholeheartedly endorse her beautiful humble efforts as a peacemaker."
